Independent Study to Public School

My daughter is twelve years old and we recently moved her to a comprehensive public school after 4 years of Independent Study. She was not happy to make the move and I am worried that the transition might cause emotional problems. Are there other parents in the same situation and if so, what can be done to ease an eighth grader's entry into a public school after many years of self-study?

The best way to help your daughter is to support her. One great way is to encourage her to join school activties that she enjoys. There she can meet people with similar interests. Then she can create a community, which should help her adjust to the transition.

I absolutely agree! Middle school is a tough transition and going from independent study to public school has to be rough. I remember moving to a new school during middle school and drama and Journalism were a big help since I loved both.
