What are the things that a parent should be teaching a child about relationships?
I really don't know if they should be teaching their child. I think what's important is modeling and talking about healthy relationships. One thing that we tell parents at Love is Respect is that a lot of times just saying, "What's important in my relationship is that I have the right not to go do something, if I don't want to or that I have time to myself."
A lot of times, we don't spend that time with our child showing them that we are working on healthy relationships ourselves. It is also when you talk to them, it is saying, "What are some things that are important to you?" And, "Here are some things that are important to me in my relationships." It's more about having a conversation about healthy relationships, and modeling it, it has much more impact on a child in modeling a healthy relationship.
