If it is safe to use spray tan or tanning bed during pregnancy? Well, the short answer is no. Tanning beds, which use ultraviolet light, are never safe for anyone, really. They’re claiming there’s less UVA, less UVB, or more of this, or more of that, but it’s really tanning itself is skin damage, whether you’re pregnant or not. It doesn’t matter if you’re Caucasian or light skin, tanning or getting sun burnt is skin damage. It doesn’t cause any harm to the baby, but it can cause skin cancer in the mom eventually. And so tanning beds in general I discourage from. But not because you’re pregnant, it has nothing to do with pregnancy. Spray tan is just a basic dye that just browns your skin and as far as we know it’s safe. There’s very low information on that in pregnancy, so the jury’s out. But as far as we know, it is safe.
