Helicopter mom?

Would you consider yourself to be a helicopter mom or do you believe in a more laid back approach?

Yes! But I am trying to be a little more relaxed. Hubs says I worry to much and stress myself out. I just want to protect my kids so I don't like them to be out of sight or too far from me. It's getting a bit easier as they get a little older and I know I need to give them a little bit of space.
Your Kid's Table
I'm surrounded by a few parents in my neighborhood that are the polar opposite of a helicopter mom, so I often feel like I'm on my kids so much. My oldest will be 6 in about a month and I try to let him figure out as much as he can, but I think they still need supervision.

Somtimes yes and sometimes no. I like to think I am mindful about it and more laid back when the situation allows it.

Well said... I try to strike that balance too, but often find myself biting my tongue!

Same here! I completely agree.

I used to be helicopter with every person on the planet. Now I'm definitely minding my own business! I let my kids make their own decisions from 18 on. I consider them to be adults at that age.
Your Kid's Table
I think that is a healthy place to be. Many parents seem to have a hard time letting go of controlling their kid's life. I hope I won't be that way.

I will confess to being more a helicopter mom, but I have been learning to let go. The hardest thing has been with my oldest who is 17 and has a learning disability andI have done a lot of work with over the years. So letting him go and seeing him fail at times is a bit challenging (although I know that's how he will grow.) He got a job this summer and that has not only been a growing experience for him, but also for me because I'm not there to make sure he doesn't really goof up.

That is so great (about the job), but I can totally understand how hard it is!

I am proud of you. I know this must be difficult. ((hugs))

I am so NOT a helicopter Mom. It's good because my husband is an Apache Helicopter. He hovers and it drives me and the kiddos crazy. He's always yelling, "don't climb that tree; slow down; get off there". It cracks me up.

Ha! Yes, I find that sometimes my husband is more of a helicopter than I am. I think it's because I am with the kids so much more that I've had the chance to work through some of those tendencies, but because he's at work all day and usually training all day Saturday and doesn't see them as much he's kind of "behind" on parenting. Maybe a few years from now he'll catch up and chill out, haha.

lol...my husband is so not a helicopter! Maybe, that is why I sometimes am..lol.

My husband is NOT either, he is quite the opposite. I always have to say, when I leave "remember, to actually watch the kids!" Ha ha, he is a great day, but he can be pretty distracted at times.

I love how many of our spouses seem to be opposites from us. Perhaps it helps balance things as a family! :)
beachcitymom
lol...I think it actually really does balance out things. :)
