I pack my kids lunches 4 days a week and let them buy lunch one day a week — usually on Fridays. I like to pack the lunches to make sure I know they will actually eat. Fridays they usually buy pizza. We do it this way because they want to buy and it gives me a break one morning a week ;) This week it was actually Monday because I hadn't done the grocery shopping yet!
I started packing their lunches this year, ideally to get them more fresh fruits and veggies. Not that they don't get that at school, but I don't know that they always choose them or eat them. Today they are eating the cafeteria lunch because I got home late last night and didn't want to pack. :)
My son's in half day kindergarten so I'm not dealing with it this year. I think I'm going to pack next year, but I can see how this will really be a chore.
Back when my kids were in school I liked to pack their lunches because I could be sure they eat healthy. For awhile it was an economic situation of getting free lunches so we couldn't be picky.
Mine mainly buy. However, they are given a certain amount of money at the beginning of the marking period and if they use it all (on junk food or extras) they are required to make their own lunch under mom's supervision of course. I allow it because I figured it's actually more economical to buy lunches then pack a lunch and have them buy milk. That's even getting lunch items on sale and with coupons.

That is a good plan! My oldest will be doing this next year. He is a really good eater so I might feel okay about him eating there.

They bring snack which is usually a yogurt but they usually eat lunch at school.

My kiddos eat lunch at school. It's what they choose.

They do a combo of both. I would say 3 or 4 days a week they brown bag it but 1 or 2 a week they buy.

Well, I would certainly trust you on the budget!

Really? How much does your school charge for lunches? I was thinking it was cheaper to pack lunches.
