Moving from a house or even a double-wide to a one-bedroom apartment can be a significant change. You are going to have a lot less space, but at the same time, you are going to save on energy.
Even with the smaller space, you can make your one-bedroom apartment look bigger by using space wisely. You don’t want to feel trapped; you want to be cozy.
Add mirrors to your apartment
One of the easiest ways to make a small space look bigger is to add mirrors—tall vertices in the living room and wide mirrors in the bathroom work best. Mirrors will make a small space and make it look like you have more rooms than you do.
Small multi-purpose furniture
Large furniture is going to take up a lot of space. You will be walking around it, and it will seem cluttered. Smaller couches, chairs, beds, and even tables and chairs will do the trick to get more room out of a small space.
It’s also a good idea to use couches, coffee tables, armchairs, and a bed that has extra storage in them. This will get rid of the clutter that you would typically have seating somewhere else. Now you don’t have to look at it, and it’s there when you need it.
Hanging storage space
Dressers and cabinets take up a lot of floor space in a one-bedroom apartment. There are already hanging cabinets in the kitchen and bathroom, but anywhere you would generally store items should also be hanging. This way, keep your storage space while not sacrificing floor space.
Get rid of anything you don’t use
If there is one bad thing about a house, it’s the fact that we can store more stuff. Unfortunately, we haven’t used a lot of this stuff in a long time, and it just sits there.
In a one-bedroom apartment, all of this stuff is going to become a problem pretty quickly. Anything that you haven’t used in 6 months to a year get rid of it. You might miss it, but you probably weren’t going to use it anyway.
Light-colored walls
I know that you don’t have the choice of wall color in your apartment; however, one thing you can do is make sure the walls are light-colored before you move in.
White, tan, or beige walls make small spaces look more prominent, and when you add mirrors, as we talked about earlier, you will feel like you have a ton of space.
Long curtains
If you have windows hang curtains. Long curtains. Hang the rod well above the window and make sure the curtains almost touch the ground. This will give the illusion that your walls are longer than they are.
The same thing goes with bookshelves. A bookshelf that goes all the way to the ceiling will give a long look.
Keep it clean
The fastest way to make a one-bedroom apartment look small is to have trash lying around. last thing you want is to invite a friend over and the feel trapt in your small apartment when you could’ve easily fixed the problem.
