Fun Ways to Celebrate your 8-year-old’s Birthday

8yr old hosting birthday party

There is nothing more exciting than your child’s birthday. Your child is about to step into the eighth year of their life, and it calls for celebrations. As a parent, you want to make sure that their special day is full of fun memories with their loved ones and friends.

It can feel like a lot of work with so many options around - from choosing the perfect theme, organizing party supplies and decorations and invitations. Let’s take a step back and allow us to make it easier for you to plan the perfect birthday for your favorite person. Check out this list with some super fun ways to celebrate their big day.

Hosting the Party

First things first! Choose a location to host a party. Think about the options you have available in the current Covid-19 situation. It’s not necessary to go way out of your budget to organize a birthday party for your little one. If you look around, you may come across some of the best locations right under your nose - like your backyard, a park near you, or just at the convenience of your home (if it accommodates the number of guests you are willing to invite).

Choose a Theme

What is their current obsession? Try to remember what your child gets super excited about. For example, think of their favorite game, superhero, hobbies, etc. They could be into robots, dinosaurs, space, unicorns, or just have an all-time favorite character. Pick a theme based on something that truly makes them happy. The colors of the decor, food items, invitations can all be coordinated around the theme you choose.

Invitations

You are looking at a few options here, depending on your budget. You can order invitation cards online, but that will cost you extra. If you want to opt for a hassle-free option, just make your own. You may make these by yourself or print them. You can even get your soon-to-be-eight-year-old involved by getting them to write the names.

The invitation cards should include location, date, and time. You can also include details like dress/costume code or additional information about the theme and party requirements. All you need to do is keep your invitations aligned with the theme of your child’s birthday party. Don’t forget to make a guest list before preparing your invitations, in case you leave someone out.

Gift Ideas

Do you know what makes birthdays special? Presents! With or without a party - there has to be a gift involved during birthdays. If you are wondering about what to gift your child for their birthday, we have some great gift ideas for 8-year-old girls and boys.

Girls

Boys

  1. Gaming device

  3. Scooter

  6. Tickets to their favorite game

These are just some ideas to get you thinking along the lines of your child’s favorite things. Please note that the ideas are applicable for all genders - according to their liking. I mean, it’s quite common for an eight-year-old girl to love soccer too. You know what’s another amazing way to surprise your child is to allow them to host their first-ever sleepover - it could mean the world to them.

Birthday Cake

Another essential to celebrating any birthday is a birthday cake. When it comes to your child’s 8th birthday, a cake is a must-have item. If you are tight on budget, it might be a fun idea to bake it yourself. And if not, you can talk to a bakery near you to match it with the theme of the party. It is the perfect way to put up a smile on your guests, particularly the birthday boy/girl themselves.

You can also opt for a store-bought birthday cake, but the only issue with these ones is the size. They might be a little too small if you have more than 8 to 10 people at the party. On the other hand, if you want to get creative, you always have the option of searching for recipes online and decorating tutorials to make your own cake.

Decorations

If the party has a theme, the decorations can be tailored to fit the needs. You can set a center table for cakes and treats for kids and have a backdrop with “Happy Birthday” balloons with their names on it. Basic decor essentials for a kid’s birthday party require balloons and hats.

If it is an outdoor event, you can organize seating arrangements for the kids to enjoy their meals or play games like musical chairs, etc. You can also rent play equipment like a trampoline, bouncing castle, or a ball house as a recreational activity for kids.

Food

The menu is ideally a kid-friendly menu at a child’s birthday party. But it all depends on the guest lists. If you have adults attending, you have to pick one-size-fits-all items. For example, finger foods are great for children’s parties.

Pizza, mini burgers, sandwiches, cupcakes, fruits, candies, hand-crafted ice creams, etc., are always a hit with the hungry little monsters. Just remember to have an unlimited supply of napkins, disposable plates, cups, and cutleries for them.

Lastly

For the parents of the children attending the party, please remember to go over every little detail before they arrive. For example, remind parents to send the kids with their swimsuits and towels if you are planning a pool party.

If you are only inviting kids, advise the parents about the drop-off and pick-up time. It is also highly recommended to check for any food allergies and dietary requirements before deciding on the menu - trust us, all you want is for all the kids to have a fun and healthy birthday party. Most importantly, don’t forget to take pictures of all the effort you have put in for your eight-year-old birthday bash. An advanced happy birthday to your not-so-little munchkin! They grow up fast, and their early childhood birthdays are the most memorable ones. So, go all out!
