The most common issues with the pelvic floor postpartum include muscle weakness issues where a woman might cough or sneeze and have a little bit of dribbling or leaking of urine or may be not even able to have control of their bowel movements like they used to. And what can be done about that? All sorts of exercises that need to be uniquely and individually created for each woman, but in general, you can think of Kegel exercises – and that’s not the ultimate – but Kegel exercises are what we call pelvic floor muscle exercises in conjunction with abdominal or trunk exercises can help recruit those muscles. So if you had to stop the flow of urine, which you never want to do under normal circumstances, those are… you’re using your pelvic floor muscles. So you can try that to see if you have an awareness of where your pelvic floor is. But don’t hold you breath if you have a problem and go seek professional help.
