Alisa Donner: Why did we start PAM? I started it with my best friend who was also pregnant at the same time that I was. And we started it out of a need for conversation, for knowledge, for help, for assistance, and it wasn’t about being a movement. It was about supporting each other and getting support for other women that had gone through the same experience or about 2. And so we created PAM as an outreach and an outsourcing of what we were already doing with each other. We were gleaning the web for information. We were reading books. I was stopping other women who were either pregnant or who had small children in grocery stores and asking them questions. Any woman with a baby was an expert in my opinion at that time. We were taking Mommy and Me classes, we were teaching pregnancy yoga classes. It was a time of just sharing and that’s what we’re trying to do with Pregnancy Awareness Month is to share and to encourage other women to do the same thing.
