The Bottomless Toy Chest is organization dedicated to delivering toys, crafts, and hands on activities to hospitalized pediatric cancer patients.
In the war against cancer, doctors have very powerful therapies that names way too long for me to pronounce. Children, in their own war against cancer, have some weapons of their own that is easier to pronounce. There is Mr. Potato Head; there's Polly Pocket; there's Bob the Builder. It is amazing to see what these toys can do to give the child the will and strength to fight back.
At The Bottomless Toy Chest, we don't just bring toys into a room, we want it to be an experience for a child. When you go through cancer treatment, you realize that you can't live in the future, you can't live in the past. You need to experience this moment and make it the best it can be. What we do is gift wrap every single item with cellophane and a little tag.
The clear cellophane keeps the items really clean because the children have really low immune systems. The clear cellophane also gives children a choice, in an environment where they have no choices; every decision is made for them. It's very empowering.
Lastly, who doesn't like to open up presents? Kids love opening presents. The Bottomless Toy Chest is here to help them experience joy in a critical time in their lives.
