I started Mamavation because after losing over a hundred pounds, I noticed that women had constant questions for me. How did you do it? What did you do? People were always wanting to know, and I was staying at home, and to be quite frank, I was bored out of my mind and I needed something to do. So I started up these campaigns, and Mamavation was about me being able to mentor other women and teach other women what I’d learned. And one of the things that I did learn was that you don’t have to be perfect. So what I wanted to do was to create a sorority and understanding community where it was the anti-perfection, where it was okay to struggle through things, where it was okay to stumble and fall, and where that was completely fine and acceptable. Look at me, I’m your fearless leader who’s lost over a hundred pounds, and I’ve stumbled fifty gazillion times. And so being around people like that who are accepting and non-perfect, we’re all successful together and we pick each other up when we’ve fallen down. And when it comes to healthy living, the road is very narrow, so you are going to tumble and fall, so to have people around you to pick you up, it’s fantastic.
