Responding respectfully to your children rather than reacting is really important. And by that I mean giving yourself a moment to pause, or giving your child a moment to pause and reflect on their behaviour will always be helpful. So if there's a situation that comes up and you feel like you're going to lose your patience or maybe you've already lost it, give yourself a time out. Go in the other room, kind of pause and reflect on how you would handle this situation and then come back, and sometimes that's a stronger discipline than your first reaction might be.
