Foundation imagination tools help children center, and get ready to go inside.
My first one is the balloon breath. It's an easy visual. You kind of imagine that there is a balloon below your belly button, and you kind of breathe in, so the balloon expands. When you breathe out, it flattens. What that does is, it centers you, it calms you, it lowers blood pressure and all kinds of good things. That's the first step to be able to go inside and center and connect with your own resources and wisdom.
Once you are there, you want to find a safe sanctuary. I call it, discovering a special place. Everyone deserves that. A special place is like a mini-vacation where you can relax, you can respite from your stresses. It is also a place to do your inner work. So once your calm -- One girl had a special place that had all kinds of buttons to it. She said she transformed it into, whatever she needed, a garden or water. Whenever she wanted to change it, she could push a button to go somewhere else.
It can be a peaceful place. It can be indoors. It can be outdoors. It's somewhere you feel safe. Somewhere you can invite people or animals, but once they step through the door, they totally love and accept you for who you are.
