How did I transition from being an executive doing a regular day job into being a stay-at-home dad? I would say poorly. It took a lot from me; after being in the workforce since I was probably 13 years old, bringing me up till now, where I am 36. I had always been very self-sufficient; I had always felt as if I should probably be the breadwinner. So for me to exit the workforce and go into the position where I am a stay-at-home dad was a tough pill to swallow. I think for men it's a little more difficult; I think that there was a bit of a pride issue with me, I know that my self-confidence and self-esteem, and self-worth took a big hit, but I think you need to fight back. You need to create a mandate for yourself to get out of the house once a day; find a mommy or a daddy group; go to the playgrounds. I know in the beginning for a few weeks with me making that transition, I had stayed in and had become a bit of a recluse, and it doesn't really help you - I think you become depressed. I had to create that mandate for myself to get out
