There is a definite advantage to having my husband be the primary caregiver for our daughters, and that was he was immediately much more empathetic to what other women go through as a stay-at-home mom. I think that men aren't raised as being the caregivers and being nurturing and I think that he really got a whole new perspective on what it's like to be a parent and that made both of us better parents and then better spouses in general. A disadvantage to him being the primary caregiver was the judgments that I received. It was better for our family, for him to stay home and me to go to work, but some people thought that that made me less of a mother, less of a woman and that certainly wasn't the case. But it was hard for me to sort of stay strong and work through those criticisms and ignore them. But once I learned how to do that, it was just a really great situation for both of us.
