As a La Leche leader, my number one tip to offer parents when weaning a baby is to listen to yourself, and to listen to your child. When you end that relationship, it's sad in a lot of ways for the mother and the child. I think the most important thing is to make sure you are on the same page. A mom may be ready to let go, and a baby isn't or the baby might be ready to go and the mom isn't. When you have a good relationship, and you are listening to each other, and a mom is able to support the child during a difficult transition. I think that's the most helpful thing than trying to put it on a schedule or something. I think the relationship needs to drive it more than anything else.
