Some of the benefits of breastfeeding past a year are having a reliable time for your child that they can come check in with you and get a good amount of calories, fat and carbohydrates. After about a year a kid is sort of picky, at least our kids were about what they ate, and I couldn't be sure if they were getting good nutrition during the day. But I could be sure that they were getting a certain amount of the best thing I could give them. It protected them in terms of immune systems, it gave them a time to come to me and cuddle and check in. We did it for napping and just, by the time they were a year I would say it was just a handful of times during the day. But that handful of times was really special. It was time for bonding and for spending time together. And sometimes it was just time to unwind, for me and for them; it was time to relax and take a break from the crazy toddler pace and just get ready to sort of settle in for a nap.
