One of the ways I monitor my kids on social networks, such as Facebook, is I've signed up for outside services such as Family Cigna or Safe Social, which will monitor what my kids write on Facebook and alert me if they use any key words. Although I've had a number of alerts, none of them was anything I had to worry about, such as when my daughter used the word "hang," I want to hang with you. They thought the word "hang" was something that I should know about. Or when she mentioned that she had a gun. She had gotten a marshmallow gun, but because she had the word "gun" in it, I was alerted. Although I haven't had to react on anything, it's nice to know that there is a monitoring service out there that tells me of things I might need to be aware of. I'm also friends with my kids on Facebook, so I can look and see who their friends are.
