So, colleges do look at your social media. So, the best advice I can give to parents, and particularly students is, not to post anything objectionable. So, anything that you wouldn’t want to show to your parents, or you know isn’t really right, I would try to avoid posting it there, because colleges and organizations have a way of finding that information. Now, if you do have stuff that you think would be better taken down, do that before you send that application in. Just know, too, that even if you take it down, it’s still living there in cyberspace. So, people can find it. So, it’s not that you should just bring it bac, after you get accepted because there’s job interviews. There’s internships. So, I would try to keep it as safe as possible, and not put it up, or delete it and keep it deleted.

Danny Ruderman is a nationally recognized college counselor whose mission is to help as many families as possible navigate the admissions process.
