Many parents tell us that the most stressful conversations they have with their teen is about sex. It can be very nerve wracking. First, make sure that you cover the basics with your teenager. Use proper names for body parts and all activities. This makes sure they are not using slang. You want to start pretty young with the basics. You don't your teenager or your child to learn about sex for the first time on the playground or on the internet. Second, as they get older, especially Middle School and High School students, you can talk to them about how to stay safe. What are STDs? What are STIs? What can they do to make sure that their health is safe and they respect their body. Lastly, talk to them about sex as more than just a physical act, and more about connection. It's about building a connection with someone else. The basics, how to stay safe, and that sex is a really emotional act. You are giving your teenager a very good basic for healthy relationships throughout their life.
