When I was newly divorced and starting to date again, I knew having a gay son that would be something that if the person didn’t accept that or not even accept it, but support it that wasn’t going to be somebody that I could date. I knew that in that very beginning of meeting somebody, I had to make it very clear. I remember with my husband now who is a wonderful stepfather to both my kids. That was during our first because we met on the phone. During our first conversation, I said that, he knew that I have two kids, but I said, “My 7-year-old son I believe he is gay, would that be an issue for you?” When he said, “Why would that be an issue for me?” I knew we will be okay, but I also knew that was that conversation that it had to be over. I just think it’s important to let people know that someone who is going to be in your child’s life, that person has to be okay with it or there not going to be there.
