As a teen parent, I wish someone would have told me ahead of time that I have the power to make all of the parenting decisions for my child. When I had my child, I was living with my parent, so I think it was only just safe to assume that she was going to make all of the parenting decisions because she's the parent of the household. So when it came time for me to give birth, she told me, "This is what you're supposed to do. You're supposed to immunize at this point. You're supposed to circumcise at this point." But I wasn't given the opportunity or the choice. So I think as a teen parent, it's really important to know that you make all of those choices. You decide if you're going to immunize, circumcise, what you want your child to eat, where you want your child to sleep, what you want your child to wear or listen to. And you have the power to make those decisions.
