You want to know what the first clue is that your child may have an eating disorder? My basic advice is, when you take your child in for an exam, you really pay attention to what the doctor says about whether they have grown or not. If they haven't grown, be very, very watchful. Kids are supposed to be growing. It's easy to forget that because adults are worried about growing. Many of us are trying to stay the same or lose weight. Another thing I always have parents watch for is if they are showing more interest in nutrition and healthy eating. That is not a natural thing for kids to be worried about. Parents should take care of that. If your child is looking at food labels and asking if these are the healthiest choice. I would be very worried about that. Just be watchful. Another thing I would be watchful if other adults or teens are talking about dieting and losing weight, you should have them stop doing that. That could set the stage and put your child at risk.
