Is it important to enroll your kids in extracurricular activity? Absolutely. I think so. Number one because most kids just love to run around anyway. And that's great. We want to encourage that. But there is so much they learn from being in different organized sports. Participating in soccer. Participating in martial arts classes.
They learn to listen to someone other than you. They learn to develop character. They learn coordination. They learn balance. They learn so many sports-specific things that also carry over into other areas of their lives that it is so important that they have all those different experiences.
So yes, I would highly recommend all of those things. I teach martial arts. I start kids at around 5, because that's when they can really focus and start to learn something. I started teaching my kids swimming at an early age. Now they all swim. So they're 3 and 5 and they swim. So those are things that are great for kids. They're great activities. But the most important thing - make it fun. You don't want it to be an obligation. You want it to be something they do for fun. That's the best thing you can do, because if they're having fun, they're learning that activity can be fun, and they're more likely to maintain that.
