If someone has performance anxiety in sports, it is no different than a child getting up in the front of a classroom for the first time and giving a speech. They are going to deal with this, and it is going to be hard in the beginning. You have got to tell them it is going to be very difficult but very rewarding. Each time you do it, you will get better at it and better at it. And it is the same with sports. Every time you go out on the field, you are going to feel a little more comfortable. I know when I was competing, if I did not feel nervous, even at the height of my career, I knew something was wrong. Going onto the field of play being a little big nervous is a good thing. Once you start to play, you calm down.
