So when is it okay to let your child move on from something that they're doing? A sport that they're doing that maybe they don't want to continue with. Is it okay to just keep them pushing on because you don't like that idea of quitting. And a lot of times I see that with parents. No, we don't quit. We started; we're going to push through it. But is that the right thing to do? No, it is not the right thing to do. A better way to approach it, and the gauge that I've always used and that I teach parents to use is, are they having fun? Is this something that they're really enjoying? Is it something that they're looking forward to? Or is it something that's become a burden to them? It's become a have-to. When it's become that, then it's time to move on. And we really need to learn to listen to our kids and to see, well is this something that is making them light up and say, well yeah, I love my soccer. I love my gymnastics. I love my martial arts. And what I usually do, when my daughters tell me, I don't want to do that. I just don't want to do that. I usually tell them, why don't we just give it another try? Let's try it again tomorrow. And if you still feel the same way, then you don't have to do it. We'll find something else to do. And that's okay.
