A token economy can be useful for any child. But where most children or the typical child, you can correct their behavior with a negative consequence, some children may need a little more motivation. A child that is oppositional defiant maybe is hyperactive or has bad habits that are entrenched because they have been useful for them, then you want to use a token economy so that you can systematically reward them for the behaviors that you want them to gain.
