Transcription:
I talk to my kids a lot about gender and sexual orientation. I am lucky enough to live in a very diverse city where from the very start they have seen all different kinds of families. And they understand that families come in all different packages. Now that they are a little bit older, I am starting to get more quesitons about why people love the people that they do, why there are differences in families. And we talk a lot about how who you love is who you love and you can love whoever you want and love is love. And they understand that. It´s frustrating for me because I am trying to not reinforce these stereotypical gender norms but I take my kids into a store and everything is separated by boy and girl. I don´t understand why my seven year old can´t play with cars, why my five year old can´t play with dolls so I really try to not enforce any sort of typical gender role. And we talk in depth mostly about how pink is a color and doesn´t have a gender.
