Avoiding the good cop, bad cop trap is a very difficult thing. It's hardest on the parent who the child is probably most attached to or looks to for comfort the most. Early on in our daughter's life, my daughter Annabelle was looking to me, and it's changing a bit now. But when she'd do something wrong and she'd get disciplined, she'd then run to me with her arms outstretched. And it's very tough to then say to yourself, "No, mom was right. You've got to go sit in the corner." So I think that's the hardest thing to do, is to realize even though the child may look to you for comfort, you've still got to be on the same page. And that's the key for parents, to be united and on the same page. If you do that, you'll be okay as a parent, I think.
