Is coffee, black or green tea safe during pregnancy? All of those things contain caffeine. So let's face it. That's what we're really going after. We're really going after that caffeine hit. And while it's okay to have some coffee or green tea or black tea during pregnancy, we don't want to overdo. There is a limit that's been set to make sure we don't go over that limit, and that's 200mg per day. That's the equivalent of one cup of brewed coffee, two cups of the instant coffee, or if you want to go with tea, you can get away with having a lot more. That's about 4 cups of green or black tea, because they contain far less caffeine than coffee does.
You might also want to go with the de-caf if you really can't stay away from your coffee.
Also keep in mind, when we're talking about caffeine, that 200mg per day limit, that's for everything that we do. And caffeine is included in a lot of processed foods. You often find it in chocolate. You find it in a lot of supplements. So it's really important to keep abreast of what you're eating on a daily basis so you make sure you're not going over that 200mg per day limit, because that can have negative effects on your pregnancy.
