The first trimester has brought along a lot of physical and psychological changes for me. In a lot of ways, I don’t even recognize myself. My emotions are completely erratic. My body, I look in the mirror and I’m like, “Who is that?” My waistline has definitely expanded. I’ve got boobs I never had before that have a highway of veins running through them. And my shoes are even starting to get a little bit small.
But on the upside, my nails have gone from weak to strong, and I’m pretty much have a smile on my face all the time, which is just the best. I’m really excited all the time when I’m not acting crazy.
I’m definitely tired. I’m sleep deprived – clearly, it’s preparation for when the baby comes. In the night, I have nigh sweats and wacky dreams and frequent pit stops, so I don’t get much sleep at night – which I miss terribly. Little bit of nausea for about a month, which I got rid of usually with ginger candy and ginger tea. And other than that, I’ve got a severe case of baby brain. I forget everything. Which is usually a bummer, but I also can use it to my advantage too.

Tristan CoppersmithStepmom & Expectant Mom
Tristan is a stepmom of two and a mom of one-on-the-way. By day she is a Love Stylist, helping single women navigate the challenges of dating. She is the author of Menu Dating and the soon to be released, Getting Out of Love's Way. By night she is a psychology grad student at Pepperdine. What she really lives for, though, is lazy strolls on the beach, eavesdropping at local coffee shops, shopping for vintage dresses and of course, snuggle time with the family.
