Craving is a way that your body tell you what you need from a nutritional perspective. However, your body may not know exactly what kind of food it should be eating. So you should listen to your body, but you should also try to deconstruct your craving to get to the root cause of your nutritional need.
For example, if you’re craving sugary, sweet food, you may need more protein in your diet. Or you have been eating a lot of salty, meaty food and your body needs to create a balance. So in this case, you probably don’t want to go with a piece of baked cookie. Instead, you want to either increase your protein intake or reduce the amount of salt and meat that you are eating.
