Often times, when we go through a traumatic loss, such as, miscarriage, men and women react differently. Often times women want to really emote and share their feelings; whereas, men are often seen as silent or having nothing to say. One can misread that as to the men not caring, but that isn't the case. Society has these, sort of, norms that says that men have to be strong, big boys don't cry, don't be weak, keep a stiff upper lip. Men go through some of these pressures imposed upon them, so it's natural for them -- they are going through a traumatic loss, as well -- to act differently. Sometimes, they might react by being silent. Inside they might be hurting, but they don't know what to say. So what I would suggest is, A, if you can accept and love the way that your partner is grieving. See that his silence is a way of grieving. Then it becomes a way to open up that dialog between the two of you and give you room to find those words. Perhaps you can give him some coaching, some words to help him share and connect with you. Maybe that will take that silence from the room.
