I was able to have the dream natural childbirth that I wanted in a hospital environment simply by being prepared. I brought three things to set the environment how I wanted it to be. Lighting was number one. I brought flameless candles and a string of Christmas lights. I was able to turn down the florescents and just have the room seem like I was in a different place. Number two was sound. I brought my favorite CD of yoga chanting music, and I had that playing the entire time on the CD player. Number three was smell. Bring in something that makes you feel relaxed when you smell it, either a favorite lotion or an oil, and just rub it on your hands when you're going through those contractions and just breathe it in. And, number four, actually a bonus, is breathing. Just make sure you're breathing through your breaths. It doesn't matter what kind of childbirthing class you took or didn't take, as long as you can breathe and just take in nice long breaths. You're going to get through it, and it won't even feel like you're in a hospital.
