Inspiring Nursery Decor Ideas

A nicely decorated functional nursery is a safe haven for both parents and babies. Since it will be the room in which a baby will grow and spend most of the time, it's imperative that you decorate it properly to make sure your baby is comfortable spending time in the nursery. Not only should you pay attention to the colour scheme, but think about the furniture you want to invest in as well as a few other important issues that will help you decorate the perfect baby room.

Best ways to burp your baby

Corkey Harvey, MS, RN, IBCLC, discusses the best ways to get your baby to burp. Many parents may do this differently, which is completely fine. How you decide to burp your baby, whether it’s with gentle rocking or light pats on the back, depends on the baby, so it’s important to have a good understanding of their needs. The upright position with some rubbing and light patting can help, or you might want to try something else. Just be sure not to pat your baby’s back too hard, and keep in mind that they love rhythmic patterns.

Changing baby diapers

Lactation Specialist Wendy Haldeman walks us through the process of changing a baby’s diaper step-by-step, and offers more tips about cleaning your baby’s stool along the way. Many pediatricians recommend not using chemical wipes, but opt for soap and water instead. You’ll also never want to leave your baby on a changing table, so Wendy suggests keeping an Air-Pot filled with water on the table every day so you’re always ready to change your baby’s diaper.

Are Vaccinations safe?

Vaccinations have become another hotly debated topic, however, Psychologist and Research Expert Polly Palumbo along with Dr. Lawrence Kagan remind us that the study that caused this vaccine scare has been widely debunked and disproved. Vaccinations in children help protect countless individuals from disease and are completely safe, so don’t procrastinate, get your child vaccinated sooner than later. Something more substantial to consider would be having one shot per visit rather than having a child deal with multiple shots, which could have psychological effects.

Signs your Child may have a Pet Allergy

Pediatric Allergist Ron Ferdman discusses how parents can deal with the issue of pet allergies and their newborn baby. Pets are practically members of the family, but they can cause coughing, wheezing, or a runny nose if your child happens to be allergic. Some allergies can even turn chronic and result in these symptoms persisting even when leaving the house. If you have a newborn, consider having your child undergo quick and easy pet allergy tests before kicking your pup to the curb.
