Transcription:
We have such a different tribal perspective when it comes to growing up, and for our young girls we celebrate when they come of age and we talk about things like the onset of the first menses, first period. We have our terminology which is a little bit different; we talk about your first 'moon-time' and the moon cycles. We take that time to really say 'What can we do for our young women to support them as they go into their womanhood?' So things like having an opportunity to, again, think about that; to contemplate, to pray, to be served by the older women in the community. To be given mentors - aunties - who will be there to help you as you make those decisions about what it means now to be able to give life, what does it mean now to enter into the world of relationships
