If your child is born late in the year and you are trying to make the decision whether to send them on to Kindergarten or a transitional or developmental Kindergarten, the key factor to look out is their emotional and social development. Years ago, people used to look at factors like height and intelligence. We now know, those are not the factors to look at. It is the social and emotional development. We also know that there is a slight advantage for girls, particularly in adolescence, if they are not the very youngest in the classroom.

For the past three decades Dr. Van Der Kar-Levinson has lectured and consulted at private as well as public schools. She has served as an adjunct professor at both the University of California at Los Angeles and Pepperdine University.

Dr. Van Der Kar-Levinson earned her PhD and MA at the University of California at Los Angeles where she studied and trained with some of the nation’s top researchers and clinicians in the fields of child development and clinical psychology. She is a lifetime member of the American Psychological Association.
