If a child is asking why they have to do something and the parent is inclined to say, “Because I said so,” it’s not the best answer that you can give a child. That is back in the day when children were ‘seen and not heard’ and I think children, they are naturally inquisitive, so if you can give them a child-friendly answer, then you will build on their skills of logic and rationale. If it’s too complicated for the child, you can give them answers like, “Well, this is a policy in our house and this is how we do things.” And that’s fair. But you do want to allow the child to be able to inquire. You don’t want to act like you’re, you know, the authoritarian. And you want to free up the communication between parent and child.
