Co-sleeping worked for our family because it was the only way we could get sleep with my oldest son.
When he was born, he just wanted to be near me. When we would try to put him down, he didn't want to go anywhere else except sleeping with us. It was a concept I heard about before he was born. It was something that I was willing to try, but I wasn't sure was going to work for us. When he was born, we realized that was the only way we were going to get sleep, so we did it. He moved into his own bedroom halfway through his second year.
When my second son was born, I had him close to me in a bassinet in our bedroom, but he didn't sleep in the bed with me because he didn't sleep as well with me. So with my second son, he co-slept in the same room, but he moved into his room when he was eight months old. That's just what worked for us. So whether it was co-sleeping in the same bed or co-sleeping in the same room, we just did what worked for us.
