Postpartum blues are very common. They're a feeling of emotional vulnerability after the birth of your child. They typically start a few days after the birth and can last up until two weeks. But the symptoms are mild. There's some mild mood swings, irritability, some loss of sleeping, fatigue, and just feeling slightly overwhelmed. These symptoms easily abate with rest, with talking to your family and asking for more support, getting rest and eating well. Postpartum depression is far more severe. The symptoms are very intense to the point that patients have thoughts of hurting themselves or their babies. They're completely unable to take care of their child. And these symptoms last much longer than two weeks; they can last up until a year without treatment.
