When my son was born, I wanted to be the best mother in the history of the world and I didn't want any help from anybody. I wanted to hold my own baby. I wanted to feed him and be the only one to do those things. And, overcoming that want to do everything myself has been a great asset to my sanity, really. So, I think there's kind of two gifts that that comes with. One is for the child. Letting your child be influenced by other people, including his or her grandparents, is really important. And, on the flipped side is that you get a break and it's so important for parents to not be the only person who can comfort or help or do anything for their child. So, remembering that you don't have to do every single little thing yourself and letting people help you is just so important.
