Using a used or hand-me-down stroller or car seat
A lot of parents on budget think about using a hand-me down or purchasing a used car seat or a stroller. It's okay typically to purchase a used stroller as long as it's been cleaned, it's in good condition, the breaks still work, there is no other recalls on the item. You can always visit the CPST to look for recall on any of your products. However, we do not recommend that you purchase a used car seat. If your sister used the car seat and you know she was never in any crashes. You know the history of the seat or may be you want to pass it down from your first child to your second child, that's perfectly okay as long as again the car seat is still in good condition. There are no cracks or missing pieces and has not been in any accidents. Also make sure to check the recall list to make sure that non of the parts on the car seat or the entire car seat has been recalled. And the last thing remember that the car seats actually expire. The typicall age is 5 -7 years. You can view the expiration date typically on the stickers on the car seat or visit online for the manufacturer's website to find out more information.
