Parents who have multiple children are often struggling which position to put each car seat in. And since they've heard that the center of the back seat is typically the safest position in the car, they want to keep one child in the center and one on the side passenger side. But the question is can they fit side by side? And the answer is unfortunately no, not all car seats will fit side by side in the center and the passenger seats. A lot of parents because of that reasons are having to put the 2 children at both the outboard seats behind the driver and the passenger. There are a few car seats on the market that are a little bit more narrow than the average so you can fit them side by side. Especially a lot of parents with twins tend to get those thinner can seats. So you can always to try them in your vehicle. I recommend going to a baby store, a boutique or somewhere in your neighborhood, they will allow you to test the seats in your car vehicle before you make the purchase. For may be an online retailer may be you can return them if they don't fit. Try out different car seats until you find the right configuration that works for your family.
