Creating a family vision starts early in life with discussions with your partner about what values and characteristics are important to you to see develop in your child: self-reliance, self motivation, responsibility, empathy; and to see develop amongst one another: respectfulness, kindness; and in the household: harmony. This then becomes a code for the family, a map for the family that you as parents must model in your daily interactions and when disciplining and setting limits, you’re often going to be connecting to these values. “In our family, we are kind – hitting is not okay.” “In our family, we are generous – let’s go find a way that we can be helpful.” And in this way, it provides a map for the family to follow and develop into wonderful adults.
