Runaway kids get the short end of the stick as far as missing kids go, but, in reality, every child that runs away is running away from home for a purpose. Between 2.8 and 1.6 million children have run away and are on the streets of America on any given day. And, each and every one of those children is subjected to the threat of predation, that they find themselves all of a sudden being a small fish in a very large pond, and somebody can come forward to them and act as if they're their friend, gain their trust, and then turn them in to the world of child pornography and/or child prostitution. It's thought that as many as 300,000 American kids at a given time are caught up in the world of child prostitution at a given time. That's why we need to pay a lot more attention to the issue of runaway kids. There's something wrong to begin with, and a bad situation can become much , much worse if we don't take steps to recover those children and offer them the services that they most likely need.
