Maintaining my relationship with my partner now that I have kids is something that I like to call “finding the little golden nuggets” whenever I can. For instance, it’s easy to say do a date night, find a weekend together, go away. All those things are great. But sometimes it’s just not a reality. So what I like to do is find the little times. Sitting on the couch with my husband, even if it’s just for like 15-30 minutes, watching a show, checking in about the good and bad parts of our day, that’s the golden time. That’s the time that matters because it reconnects you even if it’s only for a teeny bit of time. Even going to bed at the same time helps because you feel like you can shut down your day at the same time with your partner. Even if you just hit the pillow and go to bed that night. Something else I like to do that my husband thinks is the funniest, most cheesy thing in the world is when I get him a birthday card or Valentine’s Day, any kind of a card, anything, I will literally write an essay, letter, a love letter if you will inside the card just telling him how much I appreciate him, what I love about him, what I love about our family, things I’m thankful for. I like to do that. I feel like it just keeps you connected.
