One important parenting tool that everybody has in their bathroom is this, a mirror.
If you can look at yourself and ask the question, am I worthy of my child's unquestioning imitation, you are going to have 90 percent of your issues knocked. The middle principle of my seven principles is example. The vast majority of what we teach our children and convey to them is through who we are and our example.
If you can get your mind around that daunting reality. It is daunting. Be reassured by this: It isn't our perfection that teaches our children, it's our striving. As long as we are striving, if we are holding a worthy ideal, some lofty goals for which we are aspiring, that is what inspires our children.
We don't have to be perfect. We just always have to be aware that they are always watching us and emulating our desire to be better.
