My advice when dealing with a child with asthma is that you have to accept that your child has asthma. I say that because I spent about a year and a half not accepting it. Doing half measures. Saying, "No, no he just wheezes once in awhile." We actually ended up in the hospital twice because of that. It was the second time that I was able to honestly convince my husband that we have an asthmatic child. The resistance to labeling. You don't want to label your child with anything. But in fact when we said, "We have a kid with asthma. Let's get all the apparatus we need including the electronic nebulizer." That is the most genius invention because you can take it everywhere. You actually never have to go to the hospital again with an asthmatic child if you keep the medicine with you and the nebulizer with you. Which I actually keep in a backpack. It has been on airplanes, every major city in the country with me. I even took it up to Big Sir with me and thank God because my boy started wheezing. We pulled into a Starbucks. I plugged it in. He got his medicine, and we had a great vacation. So the most important thing is to say, "Yes, my kid has this problem. How am I going to help him?"
