Children who cut their fingers off usually by slamming their fingers in a door, usually a car door is something we see relatively frequently. Usually it is the tip of the finger, and most often fortunately we call it a near amputation. In other words it is not completely cut off, but it is cut partway through the finger. We literally sew it so that it is closed at the end. That is one option. The other is to literally let it heal open so that it scars down and eventually heals relatively well with some good follow up care, antibiotics and cleaning.
