It was very unexpected for me to suddenly realize that I was ready to be a mom. Unexpected in the way that it didn't happen at a traditional time line that you would imagine it would happen in a woman's life. You know I spent my 20's working in this great career in Los Angeles. I was married to my job. I dated casually. I didn't really give thought about when to have children. I just knew that some day I would. My shift happened when I started to became a full time care giver to my grandmother. My grandmother had Alzheimers. She needed around the clock care, supervision, love, and so I moved in with her and took care of her. And it was by care giving that I realized this ... I don't know if ,, it sounds cliched to say a light or a switch, but something like that did happen where I realized that I have this huge capacity for love and I was ready to be a mom. Now the bummer of it was that I basically was housebound with my grandmother 24/7. So I wasn't dating. I wasn't even in a position to start dating. And so I realized if I wanted to be a mom I needed to take care of it myself.
